Time

have you guys every really thought about time? By definition time is:

”the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.”
To me it is such a complicated matter. A dimension that we cannot see and really cannot understand. Have you thought about this when you ask ; What time is it? you will never know that time because by the time that you ask and the person responds time has past so it is no longer the time in which you asked the time. Very confusing and amazing at the same time. How is it that sometimes hours might go by like seconds but then some times minutes can feel like hours?
In a very more simple way that we can all relate to, How fast time actually is going by around us. I still cant believe that im a freshman in college and oh my god my first semester is over. we have been here for about 4 months and now we are all going back home for break. Can you believe it? I cant. When I stop and think about all this im still amazed how time has gone by so fast.
I guess before we know it we will be done with college and probably married with kids with a boring job(hopefully not).
Sometimes I wish time would not go by so fast.

Long Duration Performance

Marina Abramovic, born in 1946 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. She explores the physical and mental limits of her being, she has withstood pain, exhaustion, and danger in the quest for emotional and spiritual transformation.

Ever since i have attended this class and Sarah has talked about long duration, the first name and thing that comes to mind is Marina Abramovic. Im pretty sure you all remember her and her work that she has done. I believe she is truly inspiring and amazing.

Her long duration performances i believe show her passionate and patience. You have to be very calm and patient to be able to do the works that she does. Her performances with Ulay are the most touching to me. When they walk the great wall of China and realize they are not going to be together any more and then when ulay shows up at another of her performances many years later is so tragic and romantic at the same time.

Marina Abramovic has had a stranger point a loaded gun at her head, sat in silence for 700 hours and set herself on fire. Amazing women i believe. I dont know what you think.

What i perceive from long duration is that a long duration progress is an art performance that artists try for a long time (duration). they try challenging actions and try their limitations both physically and mentally. It is very inspiring how these people are able to do such things for such a long period of time.

Iran

So I decided to blog about Iran where Im from and inform you a little bit about my country.

Iran formerly known as Persia officially the Islamic Republic of Iran since 1980, is a country in th middle east. Comprising a land area of 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), it is the second-largest nation in the Middle East and the 18th-largest in the world; with over 77 million inhabitants, Iran is the world’s 17th-most-populous nation.

Iran is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, beginning with the formation of the Elamite kingdom in 2800 BCE. The Iranian Medes unified the country into the first of many empires in 625 BCE, after which it became the dominant cultural and political power in the region. Iran reached the pinnacle of its power during the Achaemenid Empire founded by Cyrus the Great in 550 BCE, which at its greatest extent comprised major portions of the ancient world, stretching from the Indus Valley in the east, to Thrace and Macedon on the northeastern border of Greece, making it the largest empire the world had yet seen. The empire collapsed in 330 BCE following the conquests of Alexander the Great, eventually rising to prominence once more after the establishment of the Sasanian dynasty in 224 CE, under which Iran became one of the leading powers of Western and Central Asia for the next four centuries.

A geographically diverse but mostly mountainous country, Iran has always been of significant geopolitical importance, owing to its location at the crossroads of Central Asia, Western Asia, and South Asia. Tehran is the capital and largest city.

It is one of the world’s most mountainous countries, its landscape dominated by rugged mountain ranges that separate various basins or plateaux from one another. Iran’s climate ranges from arid or semiarid, to subtropical along the Caspian coast and the northern forests. On the northern edge of the country (the Caspian coastal plain) temperatures rarely fall below freezing and the area remains humid for the rest of the year. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 29 °C (84.2 °F).

The majority of the population speaks the Persian language, which is also the official language of the country, as well as other Iranian languages or dialects.

Iran is home to one of the richest artistic traditions in world history and encompasses many disciplines, including architecture, painting, weaving, pottery, calligraphy, metalworking and stonemasonry. Carpet-weaving is one of the most distinguished manifestations of Persian culture and art, and dates back to ancient Persia. Persians were among the first to use mathematics, geometry, and astronomy in architecture and also have extraordinary skills in making massive domes which can be seen frequently in the structure of bazaars and mosques. Besides being home to a large number of art houses and galleries, Iran also holds one of the largest and most valuable jewel collections in the world.

The cuisine of Iran is diverse, with each province featuring dishes, as well as culinary traditions and styles, distinct to their regions. The main Persian cuisines are combinations of rice with meat, chicken or fish and some onion, vegetables, nuts, and herbs. Herbs are frequently used along with fruits such as plums, pomegranates, quince, prunes, apricots, and raisins. Iranians also usually eat plain yogurt with lunch and dinner; it is a staple of the diet in Iran. To achieve a balanced taste, characteristic flavourings such as saffron, dried limes, cinnamon, and parsley are mixed delicately and used in some special dishes. Onions and garlic are normally used in the preparation of the accompanying course, but are also served separately during meals, either in raw or pickled form. Iranian cuisine has also greatly inspired its neighbors. Iran is also famous for its caviar.

When the Revolution began in January 1978 Iran changed.  After strikes and demonstrations paralyzed the country and its economy. Once being the center power of the Middle East and being and amazing country with freedom, just like or maybe better than European countries at the time. With having a lot of natural resources we were once a rich and powerful country. Unfortunately after the revolution all this changed and the Islamic regime took over and they basically ruined our country.  They do not care about our country and they steal our money and natural resources. Its just so tragic.

Plastic

Today I was at an event I had to attend for my first year colloquium which some of you were there. They showed us a video about plastic in the world which I thought was very interesting and sad at the same time. I was very informed and it made me think about the way I live and consume plastic and how I could change that. The name of the video is BAG IT so if you haven’t seen it I really do recommend you to watch it. here are some facts about plastic:

The world consumes 1 million plastic shopping bags every minute. American shoppers use an estimated 102 billion plastic  shopping bags each year — more than 500 per consumer. Many countries have instituted tough new rules to curb the use of plastic bags.  Some, like China, have issued outright bans. Others, including many European  nations, have imposed stiff fees to pay for the mess created by all the plastic  trash.

Another interesting fact about plastics and your money: 90% of the price you pay for the bottled water goes to the plastic bottle, while the water cost you only 10% of the money you give.

The average American buys 167 bottles of water per year, avoiding using any alternatives.

24 million gallons of oil are needed for producing of billion plastic bottles.

Europeans are not that interested in recycling. They currently recycle only 2.5% of the plastic bottles they use.

Sad but true, the worldwide fishing industry throws huge amounts of plastic garbage in the oceans. Amazing 150,000 tons go into the water every year, including packaging, plastic nets, lines and buoys.

This thrash causes death of many animals in the seas, which mistake the garbage for food. Estimations say that the number of killed animals is over one million.

Over 13 billion of plastic bags are produced every year, which are about 300 per adult. A number of 300 bags for 365 days are just too much!

Nostalgia

What is nostalgia exactly?

The term nostalgia describes a sentimentality for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. The word is a learned formation of a Greek compound, consisting of νόστος (nóstos), meaning “homecoming”, a Homeric word, and ἄλγος (álgos), meaning “pain, ache”, and was coined by a 17th-century medical student to describe the anxieties displayed by Swiss mercenaries fighting away from home. In common, less clinical usage, nostalgia can refer to a general interest in the past, their personalities, and events, especially the “good old days” from one’s earlier life.

Why did I explain about this? Well today was my X- BoyfriendImages birthday and I miss him so much.

I cant believe it has been a year since the last time I surprised him with his friends for his birthday. this is a picture of me and my friends surprising him on is 21 first birthday.

Something else that I miss from that day. Do you see the chocolate cake on the table? That is one of Iran’s most famous chocolate cake. They make it in Tehran in a bakery called ”BIBI”. Its so good you cant even imagine. when you put a small bite in your mouth, you can feel heaven it melts in your mouth. Oh my god im craving it so much now.

I just miss him and home and our food so much you can imagine.

Happy Birthday Khashayar.

My Road Trip coming to Syracuse!

Image

Me and My mom and sister came to America together. We first visited my grandmother in texas a couple of weeks before I had to come to Syracuse. We landed in Newyork city and drove from there to Austin, Texas. We stayed there for a while and then drove from Austin to Syracuse. It took us about 4 days to arrive. it got exhausting at a point that we drove for 15 hours some days. Mostly on the way it was raining and we had to go at a very low speed. It was insane. We tried different Hotels and Motels on the way. The best one we went to both price wise and it being clean in my opinion was Best Western.  I got too see Hershey’s Chocolate factory that was interesting and I saw New Orleans which I want to go back to again some day.

As much fun it was arriving at our destination Syracuse was exciting.
